PLCC socket selection guide for PLCC68 series

PLCC68 series is very small, stamp size FPGA/CPLD modules designed to be used with 68pin PLCC sockets.

Some PLCC sockets have spacers on the inside top surface. For a single sided mounting module, you can use any type of PLCC socket. For a double sided mounting modules, you need to pay attention to select a PLCC socket. Some PLCC sockets are unusable due to the spacer's position and height.

* Note: cannot be mounted on some PLCC sockets

Surface Mount PLCC Socket

Most of surface mount PLCC sockets have no spacer in it, so it is usable with no problem.
As a picture above, inside top surface is flat. It is available for both single-sided and double sided mounting modules.

 

Through Hole PLCC Socket

There are four spacers on inside top surface. Following conditions should be met:
12.5 x 12.5 [mm] pitch, 1.5 [mm] in diameter.
When these conditions are met, both single-sided and double-sided are mountable.

 

Unusable PLCC Socket Example

This socket is not good for double-sided module because it has L-shape spacers. (But OK for signle-sided)

This is a picture of bottom side of XP68-01. No components are mounted at the red circles not to be obstacles for the PLCC socket's spacers. Green arrows point at module's spacers.
